Tools / Plugins

I was shocked when I took a small survey at WordCamp and found out that a majority of people weren’t using Better WP Security. In this episode, I share some of the key features that will help you keep your website secure.

Listener Feedback

Cody asks about why you need a WordPress.com to use Akismet. I share how to get Akismet activated.

Beef Up the Security to Your WordPress Site

It is my pleasure to bring you an interview from WordCamp Grand Rapids. I met Brennen Byrne in between sessions and he showed me he really neat WordPress plugin GetClef.com.

This think made me feel space age as it eliminates the need to log into your WordPress site.

Dustin, the featured image is broken at the top of this post and on the archive pages (e.g., http://yourwebsiteengineer.com/category/podcast/). However, the thumbnail shows up on the homepage.

I must be missing something. When you lose your phone/it breaks/gets stolen, you no longer have access to your web sites?
      I hope there’s a Plan B in place.

Keeper Dan Hi Dan. I believe the way it works is that the actual “key” is stored on the Clef Server when you sign up (getclef.com). When you start the app on your phone, you have to put in a pin number that (hopefully) only you know. So, if you phone gets lost, broken or stolen, you just need to add the app on the replacement phone, put in your getclef login credentials, know your pin and you’re good to go. At least that’s how I think it works. 🙂

DesktopServer Keeper Dan that’s how I understand it works too. Maybe @getclef can chime in an validate our hypothesis 🙂

Hi Dustin,  Great show this week.  I was wondering if you really need to use Akismet with livefyre.  I use livefyre with all of my sites but only use akismet with one of them.  I see very little difference with the amount of spam between the two but will most likely install akismet on all of my sites as well.  Better safe than sorry!

AtPeace360  I’m not sure if it matters or not. I know that I saw a significant drop in the spam that was going to akismet when I activated Livefyre.
