The Showdown: WordPress vs. Ghost

Ghost looks to be the most similar platform to WordPress in my comparison.

Ghost is an open source platform that can either be run on your own server or on their’s (Ghost Pro). You can use the software for free on your own server, much like WordPress or you can pay a monthly subscription starting at $10 per month. Here are the pricing details

Ghost Pro includes a 14 day free trial.

After signing up, I was immediately prompted to pick whether I wanted to use Ghost Pro or if I wanted to download a self-hosted version of Ghost.

Simply add a Site Title and pick your subdomain and get started.

The Dashboard is very clean and somewhat confusing. Under further inspection, it looks like I’ve created an account and I need to now create the site itself.

Other Notes:
– Very minimalistic, from the themes to the backend
– Themes must be downloaded from Github or other repository then manually uploaded to your account
– Everything is called a post but a simple checkbox can make a post a page
– Doesn’t appear to be an easy way to get back to Dashboard from viewing the live site

Who is Ghost For?
I can see ghost the perfect solution for someone who’s main objective is to post writing online. Yes, it can build a complete website, but it doesn’t look there is extra functionality.
