He gives some suggestions of finding less expensive images at iStockPhoto.

Question from Keith

I’m new to WordPress and I’m wondering what the difference is between a category and a tag.

Follow Up From Amy

Amy had a follow up question from last week’s show. She wondered how to instruct her clients on how to upload smaller images on her website.

A few suggestions:

  • Show them how to resize images in Photoshop, GIMP, etc.
  • Only allow upload size to WordPress to 2MB
  • Change media sizes in WordPress settings to make default sizes smaller
  • Install a plugin to optimize to a smaller image

The best tool I’ve found for compressing JPEG images is called a JPEG to JPEG compressor.  The website is: http://www.versis.co.uk
This company has other great compression tools for PDF files too.  You may not see the JPEG to JPEG compressor on their website, but contact them and ask for a link to it.  It works great!

I also use Dreamstime.com for my stock images.  I’ve found them to be high quality and less expensive than most other stock image sites.
