035 – Increase the Performance of Your WordPress Site

On this week’s episode, we continue the discussion about WordPress performance. My good friends Sean and Randy from beAutomated.com join me again as we talk about performance of plugins and themes. I think you might find it surprising that if your website takes too long to load, it will even affect your Google ranking!

Sean and Randy recently released a blog post about this very topic and you can read it now.

I love your podcasts. They are informative and inspiring. I am brand new to WordPress, and am at the stage where I am ready to choose a theme. Having listened to episode #35, I want to get a theme that is all about appearance, not functionality. I’m already overwhelmed looking at ThemeForest and tempted to buy a cool theme that has lots of functionality. How can I sort through the morass and find a pure theme?

        Hi Linda,

Boy, that’s a tough question. I know that I always purchase the them based on looks, because that’s the piece that’s hard for me – creating a style from scratch. I can always build in functionality as I need it. I think I would recommend the same. Being new to WordPress, you won’t be able to modify theme files like I can; however, you can find tons of plugins out there that will give you the functionality you need.

Best way to increase the performance of a WordPress blog is by using a cache plugin and a CDN network.
